Private LTE —
3.5 GHz Band
CBRS is a commercially available frequency. Carriers don’t own this spectrum. Cities, School Districts and government agencies can now install their own indoor and outdoor private LTE networks. There’s some small regulation to make sure that the frequency does not become congested.
Cisco, Google, Intel, Facebook, Alcatel Lucent Enterprise, Ruckus, Cradlepoint and others are developing networks for this band.
Private LTE using the commercially available CBRS band can be used instead of or in combination with traditional Wi-Fi. Cellular coverage gaps can be addressed in campus environments such as manufacturing, hospitality, healthcare, government agencies and stadiums. One big benefit of utilizing Private LTE is that it only requires the utilization of one third (1/3) of traditional wireless access points.
